Anyone who knows me will tell you I am a city girl. And while I often whine about going out to the burbs to see my friends who live in Virginia and Maryland, I do readily admit that there are plenty of places that make the trip across the river worth while. A new place I will add to my list: the Evening Star Cafe in Del Ray. Their brunch options were a bit limited but everything was very good. I got the cinnamon and apple French toast (which had chunks of apple cooked into it…a very nice touch) and my friend got the Eggs Benedict. And since the night before had been a late one for both of us, we decided mimosas were in order. What I liked best, though, was the feel of the place. It felt like the kind of place you could sit in all day drinking coffee and talking with friends. And the bar in the back room was so comfortable, our 30 minute wait for a table felt like only 5 minutes. If you do make it out there, take some time to walk around the neighborhood – the main strip of stores and restaurants makes this one of the more charming spots around.
